Aldila and other major manufacturers usually manufacture golf shafts to fit a certain type of golfer. Design decisions can and DO involve the marketing department. A favorite, great selling shaft will get additional versions as the original product sells through. This minimizes advertising costs and helps build brand loyalty. Generally, these shaft manufacturers will WAIT until their shaft makes a big stink (I'm talking Stink in a good way here!) For instance, the Graffaloy blue was a great shaft when it came out, and there were tour players that used them almost exactly like the off the shelf product. The original product DID NOT FIT the majority of golfers, but the media and advertising machines got going and everyone wanted a Graffaloy blue shaft, here I am, waving my 0 bills around! New versions were brought out for different types of golfers, those needing higher launch angles, those needing mid launch angles, slower swing speed, the whole gamut. They also came up with the Graffaloy red which offered a contrasting product, but again piling on with that advertising idea in mind. (I think they should have asked in TV and print ads: Do you blue or do you go red?) But, I'm not an advertising guy (obviously.) The alternate flights offered in this Aldila
ONE
series are entirely different shafts. I know because I was privy to actual design documents at a conference.
The
One
Shaft family was Aldila's way of bringing out a single "shaft" that fit everyone and they thought that they could get everyone to buy
ONE
of these babies. In my experience as a fitter, obviously not
EVERYONE
was fit with these shafts. Good news is that
ONE
of these shafts (pun intended) could work with quite a few people as long as you had a launch monitor, ball flight information, spin info, and impact information. This was obtained through a professional golf fitter (the real kind, not these ten minute dudes!) and many people were happy with the
ONE
shaft family. There was also the feel of the different shafts as they were installed: Not EVERYONE would like the feel of the shaft. A few people questioned the geometry of the shafts well....it's not a smooth shaft from tip to butt, there was a set of build layers there that distracted a few people. (These people always hated shaft labels on their clubs it seems.....they were distracted for some reason. I always said just look at your target and the ball and not the stupid golf shaft!!!!)
If memory serves, these were offered in high, medium, and low launch. I seem to remember that there were eventually tour flighted versions, but not 100% sure. For total weight variations, there were 65 gram and 75 gram versions and several flexes from A, R, S, AND X and some crazy boardy things they called tour in the 85-90 gram range(but I can't confirm the last statement 100% because it's based on fitters rumor, you can never trust fitter's rumor 100%!)
Speaking from personal experience, those of us who carried in stock shafts thought that the multiple flexes, weights, and ball flights were kind of a pain, although there was a slight variation in color of the writing for the different launch versions that could help! Distributors frequently shipped the wrong parameter shaft to me and of course I was ok if I had the desired shaft in stock for my customer and was just replacing my on hand shafts, but if you were trying to build on demand to spec, it lead to quite a few problems. The shafts aren't similar enough to each other to build a similar model to a different type of launch. You could get away with using an untrimmed s flex in a 3 or 4 wood where the guy had an r flex in the driver as long as you used the same launch type.
All shafts might have a +-5 gram weight variation. Most will only have a +-3 gram variation or less. If we have multiples of the same model shaft and flex, we randomly select one unit to test for weight.
All shafts are measured to length +-1/16th of an inch. Our photos detail the butt length extensively. They may appear slightly longer or shorter in the photos due to the use of a wide angle lens distorting the image. ALL units are tested side by side for length (thus the 1/16th possible variation.) The randomly selected unit will be measured and photographed and displayed in the listing. Any variants like the tip being prepped head insertion marks will also be documented and if that is the only shaft with that type of variation, will be listed separately.
If known, the cpm of the shaft will be listed in cycles. These numbers appear on the butt end of the shafts and I'm not sure if they are Brunswick, Kaufman, or some other type of clamp. They are listed here to show the variability or close tolerance of the product.
These are new, but produced awhile ago. Shafts MIGHT show some discoloration from preproduction: ink spots indicating spines or insertion DEPTHs. Small amount of scale might be on butt ends due to no chrome applied during initial production. These marks and scale can easily be removed by either buffing, acetone, windex, or just rubbing them with a heavy cloth glove. These marks will not be visible once the golf shaft has been inserted and gripped. These are original NOS products as explained by the original owners (reputable golf shops or golf distributors located in the USA.) Shaft labels may or may not be available. Please ask if you desire them as they will not automatically included by the seller due to availability.
Any discolorations in the pictures are camera artifacts or previously disclosed issues.

Buyer is responsible for all shipping and insurance. We DO NOT MAKE MONEY ON SHIPPING. IF THERE IS A HANDLING FEE, THIS IS TO COVER THE HIGH COST OF SHAFT BOXES AND FILL!!
Shipping box and fill will weigh one pound (1#) then add your product weight. USPS charges by the pound, so even a single shaft will weigh two pounds (2#.) If you buy additional items or multiple items, they will all be packed together. We do not pre pack to ensure we do NOT over charge you on shipping. Any shipping cost (within reason) will be refunded. For example: Joe customer orders a wood shaft and a graphite iron shaft. Both buy it now or auctions add shipping. We will custom pack your items to ensure safety and refund you the shipping balance unless it is under . I am not sophisticated enough to do the combo shipping program. We use a brute force method instead of this calculation stuff. This is to save OUR time and save YOU $$$$.
We generally ship same day or next, although we have indicated several days in case we run into harsh weather. During bad weather, my storage area MIGHT be unaccessable. This is the only reason for delay.
