Wooden Antique Doll Grodnertal Jointed Peg Doll Williamsburg VA.  I purchased this doll from an estate sale in Williamsburg VA.  The story is that these dolls were made in Germany before World War One.  The war halted production of toys and the existing inventory was in storage until it was purchased by a company in London England and eventually sold to the "Williamsburg Paper Parlor".  Apparently these dolls were produced by a family owned business in Germany in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  I have seen listings dating these dolls from the middle 1800's, however, since I have never see an example that was dated or in any other manner marked by the maker these type of "estimates" are often guesses based on the condition of the dolls - bad condition equals older.  It looks like one can safely assume that this doll was made before World War One.  The doll is in very good condition.  Look closely at the photos - note the dark marks on the front and soiling on the back.  I have had the doll for many years.  The joints are fine but I have never exercised them out of fear of breaking them.  Doll is about 11 inches high.
